Bethunes MI
Bethune’s Mounted Infantry was raised in Durban on 16th October 1899 with a compliment of 500 and served with the relief force at the battles of Willow Grange, Spioenkop, Vaalkranz and the Breakthrough. Their commanding officer Major E.C. Bethune, of the 16th Lancers, was afterwards a very successful column leader.
The flash on the headdress was rectangular, divided into three, blue, red and khaki with the initials BMI, one in each.
