Imperial Light Infantry
The Imperial Light Infantry was raised in Pietermaritzburg in the latter half of 1899 with a compliment of approximately 1000 men with Colonel Nash as their Commanding Officer. The regiment was with the Relief Force and in the thick of the fighting at the Battles of Spioenkop, Vaalkranz and the Breakthrough. After the relief of Ladysmith they were disbanded having suffered casualties of 35 killed and 95 wounded.
