Ladysmith Town Guard

In August 1899 the Ladysmith Town Guard was established to protect the town against enemy action that, even then, was going to take place. In September the mayor issued a notice requesting volunteers which led to the formation of the Ladysmith Town Guard with the Klip River Rifle Association and Natal Government Railways Rifle Association as divisions of the Guard. The Town Guard consisted of 120 Officers and men under the command of Captain Molyneux.
