Middlesex regiment

The regiment dates back to the 77th Regiment of Foot which was raised in 1756 and regularly disbanded and raised as required. In 1881 it was linked to the 57th (West Middlesex) Regiment of Foot to form The Middlesex Regiment (The Duke of Cambridge’s Own). During this period they fought in India, Flushing, Peninsular War, Crimea, Inkerman, Sebastopol and the Indian Mutiny of 1858.

The 2nd Battalion were ordered out on the 11th November 1899 and were with the relief force at the Battles of Spioenkop, Vaalkrantz and the Breakthrough.
