Yorks and Lancasters
The 65th and 84th Regiments of Foot were raised in 1758 and 1759 and eventually in 1881 became the 1st and 2nd Battalions respectively of The Yorks and Lancasters. Prior to their amalgamation the 65th was never disbanded whereas the 84th was several occasions, however between them they fought in most corners of the world including The American War of Independence.
The 1st Battalion was ordered out on the 11th November 1899 and joined the relief forces fighting at the battles of Colenso, Spioenkop, Vaalkranz and the Breakthrough.
